MS Dhoni: New ICC ODI rules are bit tricky

Indian captain MS Dhoni, named the new rules for ODIs set by the ICC as ‘’tricky’ and the reverse swing will be difficult now for the pacers, who used to get the reverse swing by the old ball. As the new rules of ICC says that there will use of two new balls per innings.

According to the new ICC rules, there would be two new balls used from the two ends while batting and bowling powerplays needs to be taken within the 16th and the 40th over. Dhoni describes it is a bit tricky as they have not yet played any match under this new powerplay. It would certainly need a different approach as the second and third powerplay will now be taken within the 16th and the 40th over.

MS Dhoni insisted that, earlier while chasing teams batting second would like to take batting powerplay for the last five overs. Now with new rules, teams have rethink their tactics and it will be different getting used to new rules. The new rules of ICC will be coming into play with Ind vs. Eng series. Indian skipper, Dhoni said on the eve of their opening encounter of the five-match ODI series against England.

The skipper also seemed worried about the fact that there may not be a lot of reverse swing as both the balls will be only 25 overs old at the most. The Indian pacers used reverse swing very effectively but now there may not be much reverse swing as we expect in the sub-continent. However, the swing will be there which is quiet encouraging to the swing bowlers. Batsmen has reassess their plans and play according to the situations.

Team India is still not back to their strength as they misses dashing batsmen Virender Sehwag, little master Sachin Tnedulkar, all-rounder Yuvraj Singh and pacer Ishant Sharma while off spinner Harbhajan and speedster Sreesanth were ruled out. Other opener Gambhir back in team after suffering concussion but the opening batting combo is still unpredictable. Will India go with duo of Gambhir-Rahane or Gambhir-Parthiv. MS Dhoni might consider Gambhir to come at No.3 as Rahane and Parthiv to open and followed by Kholi, Rain and Dhoni in batting order.

While the bowling duties will be led by Parveen Kumar, in addition to Vinay Kumar, Varun Aaron, Umesh Yadav, Sreenath Aravind and in the spin department R Ashwin and leggy Rahul Sharma with all rounder R Jadeja completes bowling line-up. Manoj Twiary has to wait for his turn as he might be stick to bench. Let’s hope everyone gets a chance and India will be finishing side and go up in the rankings.
