Djokovic outplays Nadal to clinch US Open 2011


The Serbian Novak Djokovic has claimed his third Grand Slam of the year and first US Open title as he outplayed defending champion Rafael Nadal to win the 2011 US Open men's singles title at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York, USA. World No.1 Novak Djokovic recorded his sixth victory over Rafael Nadal this season to lift the 2011 US Open with score line of 6-2, 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-1, and this will be the season's last major.

The inform player Djokovic had a bad start to the match by losing his serve in the second game, but he managed to wrap up the set at 6-2. Nadal seemed to gain early advantage but soon Djokovic comeback with a four game reel-off when Nadal showed some confidence in leveling the set 4-4. Djokovic then raised the level of his game to win the second set with 6-4. 

The third set looked no less than a decider when Djokovic faced stiff resistance from the defending champion and despite squandering opportunities like an initial break of serve and 6-5 lead to serve for the championship, saw the set go into a tie-break where Nadal dominated to win it by 7 points to 3.

The fourth set saw another shift in momentum and despite the back pain and the medical time out; Djokovic managed to bring his best and claimed the uneven set to win the championship. The match has taken 4 hours and 10 minutes of play. Djokovic hit a total of whopping 55 winners in the entire match while Nadal has only 32.

This is Djokovic's first US Open title and his fourth major after wins in Australia Open in 2008 & 2011 and Wimbledon in 2011. With a win in New York, Djokovic picked up his tenth singles title of the year and third major, following up with his wins in Melbourne, Dubai, Belgrade, Rome, Madrid, Indian Wells, Miami, Wimbledon and Montreal. Djokovic has collected the winner's check of a US$ 2.3 million that included a bonus of US$ 500,000 for finishing runner up at the Olympus US Open series.
